Privacy Policy

Visit Ugljan collects very little about you. You can read every page without sharing anything. Personal data only reaches us when you send a message through the contact form, and Google Analytics only runs if you choose "Accept everything" in the cookie banner. This page explains what happens in each case and which rights you have.

Who is responsible for your data?

Rowdy Geenen, the publisher of Visit Ugljan, is the controller for the personal data described on this page. All contact runs through the contact form. We do not offer contact by phone or e-mail, so please use the form for any privacy question or request as well.

What data do we collect?

Most visits leave only the technical traces any website produces. The site is hosted by Hostinger, and like every web host its servers keep logs that include IP addresses, which are needed to run the service and keep it secure.

When you use the contact form, we receive what you type in.

  • your name
  • your e-mail address
  • your message
  • the language version of the page you sent it from

If you arrive at the form through one of the advertising-package buttons, optional fields for company name, phone number and website appear as well. You decide whether to fill them in.

The form sends your message by e-mail, through Hostinger's mail server, to the publisher's mailbox. You receive an automatic copy as confirmation. The web server keeps a short log of each attempt, holding only the date and time and whether sending succeeded. It does not record your name or e-mail address.

Google Analytics only collects data after you click "Accept everything". It then measures how pages are used, such as which pages you open and how you reached the site. The data is not anonymised. We have not configured IP anonymisation or Consent Mode. Google may process this data in the United States. For transfers from the EU, Google relies on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (Source: Google, privacy frameworks, accessed 2026-10-12).

Why do we use this data?

Each type of data has one purpose.

  • We use contact form data to answer your question, process your correction, or handle a request about advertising, premium listings or the domain. For general questions the legal basis is our legitimate interest in replying (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). For advertising requests it is the steps you ask us to take before a possible agreement (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR).
  • Hostinger's server logs serve to operate the website and protect it against abuse, based on legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
  • Google Analytics data helps us understand which pages help visitors and where the guide needs work, based on your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can withdraw that consent at any time.

We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for profiling or automated decisions.

How do we keep spam out of the contact form?

Two simple checks do the work. The form contains a hidden field that people never see but spam bots tend to fill in, and it asks you to solve a small sum. Neither check stores your IP address, and we use no external captcha service.

How long do we keep your data?

Messages stay in the mailbox for as long as we need them to handle your request and any follow-up. There is no fixed retention period. If you want your message deleted sooner, ask through the contact form and we will remove it. For the retention of Hostinger's server logs we cannot give a period, because Hostinger sets it.

What are your rights?

The GDPR gives you these rights over your personal data.

  • access to the data we hold about you (Article 15)
  • rectification of incorrect data (Article 16)
  • erasure (Article 17)
  • restriction of processing (Article 18)
  • data portability (Article 20)
  • objection to processing based on legitimate interest (Article 21)
  • withdrawal of consent at any time, without affecting earlier processing (Article 7(3))

Send any request through the contact form. You can also lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (Article 77 GDPR). For this site that is the Dutch Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens; you may also turn to the authority in the EU country where you live.

Which cookies does the site use?

Without your consent, none. Your cookie choice is kept in your browser's local storage, which is not a cookie. Only after "Accept everything" does Google Analytics set its _ga cookies; Google lists a default lifetime of two years for them (Source: Google, cookie reference). The cookie policy explains the details and how to change your choice.
